Finally, the Wizard difficulty level divides the 18 questions into nine question groups with two questions each; students must analyze nine questions correctly to complete the Wizard difficulty level.
Teachers using the Concept Builder with their classes should preview the activity or view the Questions in the separate file in order to judge which activities would be most appropriate for their students. In order to complete an activity, a student must correctly analyze each situation at that level. If a student's answer is incorrect, then the student will have to correctly answer the same or very similar question twice in order to successfully complete the difficulty level. This approach provides the student extra practice on situations for which they exhibited difficulty.
A star is an indicator of correctly analyzing the situation. Once a star is earned, that situation is removed from the cue of situations to be analyzed.

Each situation is color-coded with either a yellow or a red box. A red box indicates that the student has incorrectly analyzed the situation and will have to correctly analyze it twice before earning a star. A yellow box is an indicator that the situation must be correctly analyzed one time in order to earn a star. This system of stars and medals allows a teacher to easily check-off student progress or offer credit for completing assigned difficulty levels.
When it comes to building, I get satisfaction from starting with a concept on a piece of paper and building it.

Right out of school I started as an apprentice and worked my way through to where I am now. We first met Paul in the summer of when he completed a successful internship with our Estimating Department.
He left to pursue his Masters in Architecture at Wentworth Institute of Technology and once he had his degree in hand, he joined Commodore as an Assistant Project Manager. In addition to a Masters in Architecture, Paul also achieved his undergraduate degree in Architecture from Wentworth. I want a stronger connection to the field than I would normally have as a practicing architect. I think my ultimate satisfaction will come from delivering a finished building to a client. It was a natural connection.
Paul started working when he was 12 years old. It was — and his first project was the St. Brigid School, in Lexington. His mother and father had to drive him to the site. He continued to work during every school and summer vacation, right through college. He would go on to serve as president of A. Martini, Inc.
During that time, the Winchester- based, family-owned construction management firm specialized in the private sector of the construction industry, serving clients in the commercial, institutional and healthcare markets. He graduated from Union College with a degree in Economics and a desire to be independent.

He launched a career in finance, joining a big Connecticut bank. He lasted exactly one year in their training program.
Banking made him miserable. Building did not. Paul has played an active role in industry organizations throughout his professional career.

My father and my wife, Nancy. My father brought me up in this industry, in an ethical, hardworking manner. He gave me my ethical direction. I grew up in this business watching my father and I think that made my transition to president of the company easier. I always liked what I was doing. I always liked working hard. So did my father. He was well respected in this industry. He was a detail-oriented and professional guy— and we naturally absorbed that.
My father treated people professionally and with respect. I never saw my father have a fight with a subcontractor. He had respect for people and he got the job done. Nancy wants to go to Japan and China, but it takes an awful long time to get there and back.
Definitely a benefit. But then traveling in Italy — we found it was no big deal at all. Think…before you do.

Think of the consequences…and then have fun. I mail them stuff in the regular old-fashioned US mail. I send them clippings about business, sports, love — and economics. They get the idea. They stack the envelopes up and every once in a while they read them all. About every 10th envelope, I stick in 20 bucks — just to keep them opening the envelopes. You gotta sneak up on them. I read the financial press, the national news, the BBC, the world news, 2 or more newspapers a day.
If you run a business, you have to know how your costs are going to be impacted by legislation, by Wall Street, by new technologies. I read at least a book a week. Bill comes to us from Marguerite Concrete Company, where he worked as a safety officer. In that role he was responsible for overseeing the safety compliance of numerous project sites across New England.

I realized early on that spending my career helping people prevent injuries and accidents is a perfect fit with my personality. My goal at Commodore is to develop strong relationships with the guys in the field, getting them to think about safety as part of the culture. Bill was born in Weymouth and grew up in Scituate.
He played on the varsity basketball team in high school. When he got to college he played intramural sports and joined the American Society of Safety Engineers. Today, Bill lives in Marshfield. He is passionate about puzzle pieces. In the case of construction, each puzzle piece represents a trade that needs to fit in with all the other trades — above the ceiling and behind the walls. Ian says it all started for him when he was a kid playing with Legos and making all kinds of new creations.
